About Us
Welcome to Yatton Church of England Junior School
I am delighted to welcome you to Yatton Church of England Junior School. As you browse our website, I hope that you will gain an insight into the life of our school and those who teach, work and learn here.
At Yatton Juniors, we welcome children, their parents and carers into a friendly, nurturing, hardworking and exciting environment where respect for others and positive attitudes towards work and behaviour are firmly embedded. Relationships throughout the school are fundamental to a positive ethos. We have a very skilled and supportive Governing Body who work in close partnership with the school community to ensure there is mutual respect and trust, as well as challenge, ambition and drive.
We are very proud of our well established partnership with St Mary’s Church. Together we ensure that children and families are central to everything we do in school; we enjoy watching children grow spiritually, morally and socially within a strong Christian ethos.
Jesus said ‘I have come that you may have life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). He calls us to a full life in mind, body, heart and spirit. Therefore, we believe the purpose of education is to nurture and enable every child to thrive and to be the person they are fully capable of being.
We want to ... 'Grow, Celebrate and Make a Difference.'
Our curriculum and our Yatton Learner Skills are designed for life in all its fullness, to equip children to be curious and confident independent learners but also responsible, resilient and caring citizens in their community. As they leave Yatton Junior School, we want every child to be ready to take on the next steps in their journey to adulthood with a love of learning, positive attitudes and a rounded set of values and skills to guide them.
We recognise that the curriculum encompasses everything children experience at school. Whilst our curriculum will promote high standards and accelerate academic progress, it is also about uncovering and nurturing the talents within each child, developing core values and virtues, growth mindsets and essential skills for life. Learning is closely linked to our emotions, we learn best when we feel safe and happy, so as we state in our Aims, the curriculum is also about promoting happiness and fun!
We offer a relevant and exciting, broad and balanced curriculum where children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and make informed choices about their learning. We ensure a wide range of experiences, especially through educational trips, music, sport and the performing arts. We consider the skills of communication, numeracy and literacy to be the foundation for our learning and we are proud of our standards and achievements.
We encourage all parents and carers to come in at every opportunity, whether it is to talk to teachers about their child’s progress, see their child achieve and perform, to be part of our social events or to discuss openly and honestly any concerns or difficulties their child may have during this first stage of their educational journey. We listen to the views of our pupils and parents and use them to shape the strategic direction of the school. We firmly believe that we can achieve greater things through partnership and that working together, we can all achieve success.
Come in and see our school and extensive grounds in action and feel the positive atmosphere for yourself. Contact the school today to arrange a time to meet me and have a tour of the school.
With kind regards,
